HANNAH HÖCH | a booklet presentation

INTRO
A printed representation of one of the notable German artists:
This booklet describes Hannah Höch's work, motives, and obstacles through the period of the DaDa art movement.

BALANCE
As Hannah Höch's work is often characterized as bold, critic and chaotic but never random, the booklet's layout is designed accordingly so that every block of text has its uniqueness but never overshadows the visuals.

INSPIRATION
Since DaDaists rebelled against war and protested the senseless German establishment (post WWI), they expressed irrationality through their work in various mediums. When it came to typography, they prioritized chaos over legibility. Some layouts in this booklet are heavily influenced by Dada manifestos and letterpress prints.

DaDa as an art movement is explored through this spread. The entire spread is -on its own- a DaDa artwork. On the right, "Flucht" a collage made by Höch in 1931. On the left, a typographical layout designed and edited by Kurt Schwitters (German DaDaist) under the name of  "MERZ, NO.1" in 1923. However,  the original text was replaced with a brief history about the DaDa movement and a poem "An Anna Blume" written by Schwitters in 1919.
(original layout and poem below)
